The Science Museum is boldly going where no science museum has (probably) gone before, opening a season of Star Trek events that beam sci-fi imagination straight into the realm of real science.

To mark Star Trek’s 60th anniversary, the Science Museum will launch several months of events with a late-evening opening of the museum for adults next month.
The museum late takes place on Thursday 26th March, and will feature a range of Star Trek themed events throughout the evening.
Free tickets for the Museum Late are available from here.
During the rest of the year, they will also show all 13 movies on their IMAX screen – one of the largest in Europe – for the first time.
The films will be shown throughout the year, and tickets are on sale now from here.
There will also be a free Star Trek Trail opening on 26th March and running throughout the museum, featuring objects from the franchise’s archives, including screen-used props, that will explore the connections between science fiction and real-world innovations.
And, of course, the museum shop will have a range of Star Trek 60th anniversary goodies for sale.
The Star Trek 60 events will run at the Science Museum from 26th March through to September 2026.
In case you’re wondering, the exact anniversary date is 8th September for the first broadcast in the USA in 1966 – but it wasn’t shown in the UK until 12th July 1969, on BBC1 at 5:15pm.
It was promoted as a summer filler for Doctor Who, and the first episode broadcast in the UK was the third in the series, Where No Man Has Gone Before. That’s because the third episode was originally expected to be the first when the TV series was being made, but NBC changed the order.
The BBC restored the original series order.
