Luckily, one Amazon bestseller appears to answer our prayers. The Loop Quiet Equinox earplugs promise to reduce noise specifically on flights. The noise-cancelling earplugs come in seven colours – black, mint, teal, pink, blue, lilac and white. The pair is £24.

The description claims to reduce noise by 26 decibels, coming in four sizes to fit any sized ear. The set also comes with a case so you don’t lose the pair. Loop claims they last for up to five years of daily use, which is likely even longer if you’re only taking them out for holidays.
The reviews are mostly positive, with many saying they were a godsend on flights.
Lucy wrote: “I bought these because I had become aware that post pandemic I find noisy situations a bit overwhelming and I was about to take my first post-Covid flight.
“What I love is that you can still hear everything – so you can still orientate yourself within a space and you can hear people approaching from behind – but noise levels are reduced enough to make it a bit less stressful and less anxiety-inducing.
“Found them really helpful on the flight and kept them in in the terminals too. I did take at least one out when speaking to people as I didn’t find it very easy to gauge how loud I was speaking.
“I have tried using them at night too but found that they dug in a little bit on the side I was laying on but I guess it depends how you sleep. My little case also broke after not that much use too which was a bit disappointing.”

Alternatively, Boots sells the Alpine Flyfit Earplugs for just £11.95. They are designed to prevent earaches on flights and reduce noise. They also have a handy grip to make it easier to take them in and out. Screwfix also has a pack of five earplugs for £9.99 for industrial-level ear protection. Superdrug has a soft foam pack of three pairs for just £1.99.
