Everyone loves a good London day trip, and with East London serving up an endless supply of trendy openings, independent shops, and hidden gems, you never need to venture far from one place to the next. We’ve partnered with Greater Anglia to throw together some recs for your visit, from vibey food and drink spots, to shopping, cultural attractions, and even a wellness activity or two. And the best part is, they’re all local to one another – so you can save the travel for your Greater Anglia train journey into the city, and simply let the fun begin once you arrive.

What’s more, with Greater Anglia’s GroupSave offer you can get a third off Standard Off-Peak fares when travelling in a group of 3-9 adults. It’s valid for travel outside peak times on weekdays, as well as anytime on weekends and bank holidays. What better excuse to get your friends together for a fun day trip to London?

This Victorian London pub in the heart of Dalston is beloved by locals, not least for its friendly vibe and fabulous drinks selection. They’re also known to throw a party (more than once in a while), and the pub even has an infamous live room hidden behind a bookcase where up and coming bands and artists regularly play. And if you’re wanting to watch the World Cup, they’re showing all of the games, so you can grab a spot in the cosy outdoor seating area and catch all of the action.

    2. Find delicious street food and vintage gems on Broadway Market

Staying with the Victorian theme, this historic market is undoubtedly one of the best places in the city to indulge in lots of different cuisines. As well as the street’s own selection of restaurants, cafes, pubs, and shops, you can also find an abundance of fantastic street vendors, selling everything from mouthwatering food to gorgeous vintage clothes on Saturdays and Sundays. From banh mi, burgers, and freshly baked goods, to roti wraps, fragrant noodles and succulent grilled meats, it’s certified foodie heaven.

    3. Browse beautiful blooms at Columbia Road Flower Market

From one iconic East London market to another, Columbia Road Flower Market is a must-visit weekend destination. Whether you’re hunting house plants, a lovely bouquet of flowers, or simply want to sip a coffee and soak up the vibes, there are few nicer ways to spend a Sunday in the city. And when the market draws to a close at about 3pm, stick around and find a souvenir in the street’s wealth of independent shops including art galleries, Italian delis, garden and antique shops, and some top tier restaurants and pubs.

    4. Go for a swim in London Fields lido

If you want to work up an appetite before your Broadway Market feast, then London Fields Lido is just minutes away. Book in for a refreshing dip in this lovely outdoor pool and swim a few lengths, before making your way across the green for a well-deserved post-swim refuel.

    5. Explore fascinating collections at V&A East Storehouse

Shortlisted as one of Artfund’s Museums of the Year for 2026, V&A East Storehouse is a free to visit working museum where you can get access to thousands of items from V&A collections that would otherwise be in storage. Almost like a behind-the-scenes archive tour, the storehouse is filled with objects spanning fashion, furniture, design, theatre, and more. Just scan the QR codes next to each display to find out more about their history.

    6. Treat yourself to an al fresco sauna and cold plunge

Community Sauna Baths in Hackney is your go-to for a guaranteed endorphin hit. The not-for-profit facility is home to six wood-fired saunas, one electric, and a variety of cold plunges ranging from 3-15 degrees depending on how brave you’re feeling! And with 1 hour passes starting at just £9.90, it’s super affordable as well.

    7. Check out a record shop-meets-rooftop bar

All My Friends in Hackney Wick is a buzzy, canal-side venue that wears many hats. The record shop with a custom-built hi fidelity sound system also serves as a rooftop bar – and as of this spring, they’ve welcomed London pizza royalty, Dough Hands, as a kitchen residency, joining taco maestros, Guacamoles. From Record Shop Lates to run clubs followed by open decks sessions, there is always something exciting going on, something irresistible to eat, and something tasty to sip.

    8. Immerse yourself in art and nature with a walk along The Line

This public art trail runs all the way from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to the O2 in Greenwich. Following the waterways, this unique route offers the dynamic urban landscape, nature, and plenty of free art to admire. If you’re looking to spend some time outdoors, get some steps in, and see London from a different perspective, then The Line is the perfect sunny day activity.

    9. Admire East London from the water on a canoe, kayak or paddleboard

Another lovely way to experience East London’s waterways is, well, from the water! Hire a canoe, kayak, or even a paddleboard and explore hidden routes through Hackney Wick and the Olympic Park to access a side of the city that many people simply never see. And don’t worry if you’re not well-versed in water-based activities – no prior experience is needed, all the safety equipment and briefing you need will be provided before you start.

Start planning your East London adventure and book tickets with Greater Anglia today.
