Look, I’m going to go right ahead and say it: London is home to some of the best bakeries in the UK, if not the entire world. A grand claim, I know, but one that is backed up by the praise that is constantly lavished upon London’s bakeries. And now, we can add even more feathers to our baker’s cap because the Good Food Guide’s list of the best bakeries in Britain has included 8 of our fair city’s bakeries in the top 50.
The Good Food Guide team “travelled hundreds of miles in search of sensational Danish pastries, fresh, flaky croissants and full-flavoured loaves to bring you The Good Food Guide’s Best Bakeries 2025.” Which, we have to say, sounds like the absolute best job ever. Travelling across the country and trying out bunches of baked goods? Yes, please!
The list includes everything from “a makeshift industrial unit in Devon to a radically remote destination in the Scottish Highlands and a must-visit spot in Mid Wales”. Oh, and plenty of spots in London – naturally.
London’s best bakeries
These 8 bakeries made it into the top 50 list of the best bakeries in Britain. And the list may not be numbered or ranked at all – but in my mind, they’re all right at the top. Not that I’m biased or anything…
- Bunhead Bakery – Herne Hill
- E5 Bakehouse – Hackney
- Eric’s – East Dulwich
- The Good Food guide said Eric’s is home to “arguably the best croissants in London (if not the UK)”
- Hearth – Hackney Wick
- Tarn Bakery – Highgate
- The Dusty Knuckle – Harringay
- Toad Bakery – Camberwell

The best bakeries in Britain
Selfish though we may be, we can’t only talk about London’s stunning bakeries. A number of other incredible spots made it onto the list, from all around Britain. These included:
- Aran Bakery – Dunkeld, Perthshire & Kinross
- “Owned by Flora Shedden, a Dunkeld local and once the youngest ever finalist on The Great British Bake Off”.
- Company Bakery – Musselburgh, Lothians
- Farro – Bristol
- Kanto – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
- Landrace Bakery – Bath, Somerset
- Long Boi’s Bakehouse – Manchester, Greater Manchester
- Pollen Bakery Campus – Manchester, Greater Manchester
- According to the Good Food Guide, “Pollen has established something of a cult status in Manchester for its quality viennoiserie and sourdough loaves.”
- The Wild Loaf – Liverpool, Merseyside
- The Good Food Guide says, “The cinnamon buns are excellent… (and the) croissants (both plain and almond) also come highly recommended”.
- Tough Mary’s Bakehouse – Nottingham, Nottinghamshire
