A shopper who visited a London branch of TK Maxx for the first time shortly after moving to the capital has admitted she will need to ‘restrain’ herself from visiting frequently

A customer who visited TK Maxx for the first time has confessed her amazement at the sheer volume of bargains the discount clothing and homeware retailer has available.

Taking to social media, the delighted shopper disclosed she visited a London branch of the shop shortly after relocating to the capital. “I recently moved to London and there’s a TK Maxx right next to my apartment,” she wrote on Reddit. “I’d been avoiding it for weeks because I had no idea what it was, but I finally went in yesterday… and what a thrill! The customer went on to disclose what she bought, before enquiring what bargains others had picked up too.

She told the TK Maxx subreddit she discovered KitchenAid spatulas along with “a bunch of great bits” for £5 – which felt like a “steal” and concluded her post by asking others what deals they secured.

“Now I’m wondering how you stop yourself from going completely overboard, I really had to restrain myself from overbuying,” the Reddit user confessed. “What was your favourite purchase/bargain?”

Responding in the comments section, one person confessed: “It’s not as good as it once was. You used to get end of line/clearance stuff that was insanely marked down (I got an Yves St Laurent wool suit for £120 which was my wedding suit) BUT beware.

“Many brands are now making outlet only lines (Le Creuset in block colours instead of signature colour wash).”

A second shared a London tip: “Yellow stickers are twice a year. Sunday was the last day and in the last few days of yellow stickers they reduce prices every hour or so. Some amazing bargains but it does vary by store.

“Hammersmith is very good for designer. Also heard that Clapham Junction and Westfield Shepherd’s Bush are good. To avoid the made for outlet stock, check that it actually has an RRP and then check the code on the top right hand side of the price tag.”

A third Reddit user recalled: “Bed linen! I once got a 600TC set of sheets for £45. Retail on the brand website was over £300. I like to browse the ‘Gold Label’ stuff on the website too. Snagged a Chloe bag for £280, RRP was around £1,500. My local store doesn’t stock gold label stuff sadly but that’s probably good for my wallet!”

While a fourth noted: “I’ve bought some of my most beautiful dresses from there. Used to love the kitchen aisles when they were more abundant. When to stop? Don’t stop! Go every Sunday!”

Appreciative of the responses, the woman shared: “Thank you! You guys have been very very helpful. A quick question – I don’t think I know the codes on the labels. Are they self explanatory or do I need to ask/search online what they mean?”

“No, they’re not self explanatory, you’ll need to have a look,” came the reply. “I’m sure I saw this on YouTube.”

If you’ve never set foot in a TK Maxx store yourself, the retailer proudly states online: “At TK Maxx we deliver great value on ever-changing selections of brand name and designer products at prices up to 60% less than the RRP and at a significant discount to the prices in a department store or on the high street.”

“TK Maxx is an off-price retailer. For us, value is a combination of brand, fashion, price and quality. Unlike traditional retailers, we generally don’t do promotions, sales or other gimmicks, just exciting merchandise at amazing prices every single day.”
