Spend more than half an hour online consuming food-focused content, and you’ll likely come across the name To the ancient vinaio. It’s not just one of the most famous sandwich places in the world. It’s arguably THE most famous food spot – regardless of the type of food – in the world. And now it’s added to its already heaving roster of locations with a brand new location in London.
That’s right, you can now try the world-famous crushed sandwiches without having to jump on a flight to Italy. The Florence-born sandwich shop chain has found a UK home in Sohotaking over the site of the beloved I Camisa & Son deli.
The brand kicked things off in Florence over 30 years ago. And they’re still going strong, filling their freshly baked breads with the likes of Mortadella, Pistachio, and Stracciatellaas well as ingredients ranging from porchetta to spicy eggplant‘ndujaand more.
In their newest site, they’re serving up all the classic flavours that have made them famous. They’ve also got some new sarnie creations just for London. (Although it feels sacrilegious to call an Italian sandwich a ‘sarnie’.)
The new opening is the first spot to open in the UKwith more openings already planned around the world. It’s also now the seventh country to boast All’Antico Vinaio on its streets as the sandwich-sellers prepare to take on the world. The famed sandwich spot boasts sites all over Italy, as well as internationally in the likes of Dubai, New York, Los Angeles, and now London.
They may have only just opened, but they’re not slowing down after the London site. They’re already eyeing up further expansion within the country. In a post on Instagram, founder Tommaso Mazzanti wrote, “we are already working with our agents in the UK to find more new stores right away”. So stay tuned if you’re not a Londoner and you’re hoping the sandwiches might come to your town. It just might happen!
