Three Canadians to receive fully-funded scholarships to UK masters programmes.
- The British High Commission in Ottawa names three Canadians, from Toronto and Edmonton, as 2025 winners of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship.
- Chevening is the UK Government’s global scholarship programme. The fully-funded scholarships support study in the UK for post-graduate students with demonstrable potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers.
- The Chevening program is now accepting applications for the 2026-27 academic year. The application window will close on 7 October, 2025.
The British High Commission in Ottawa is proud to announce the three Canadian recipients of the prestigious Chevening Scholarship for 2025.
The UK Government’s esteemed global scholarship programme offers a transformative opportunity to individuals with extraordinary potential to become future leaders, decision-makers, and opinion formers. These scholarships cover all necessary costs for scholars to pursue eligible master’s degrees at a UK university of their choice, while also granting access to exclusive academic, professional, and cultural experiences—and an extensive alumni network of global leaders that includes the Hon. Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry, and Angus Topshee, Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy. For the second consecutive year, one of Canada’s three Chevening scholarships is funded by Calgary-based energy company ATCO.
Canada’s 2025 Chevening cohort includes Cody Mackoway, a prominent Alberta-based policy analyst and advocate for youth and Ukrainian communities; Brendan Callan, a bio-researcher and designer lauded for his innovative approaches to sustainability; and Zeus Eden, a sustainability and policy strategist currently serving as press secretary to the Mayor of Toronto. The British High Commission will bid this year’s scholars good-bye and good luck with a farewell reception at Crichton Lodge, the High Commissioner’s official residence in Ottawa, on 21 August.
Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate the commitment and skills necessary to drive positive change in their respective fields. Since its establishment in 1983, the Chevening program has empowered over 60,000 professionals to develop their expertise in the UK, before returning home with newfound knowledge that serves to benefit their communities. Notably, the program’s alumni include 21 current or former heads of state or government officials.

Scholar Biographies
Cody Mackoway
Cody Mackoway is a policy analyst and researcher based in Edmonton, Alberta. A graduate of the University of Alberta, he studied History and Political Science with a focus on cultural identity, historical memory, and democratic institutions. He has worked in government relations, Indigenous engagement, and public policy with Alberta Counsel and previously interned at the UK’s Ditchley Foundation.
Cody is an active volunteer and advocate, especially on behalf of youth and Ukrainian communities. He has led local and national initiatives, including as President of the Ukrainian Students’ Society and Youth Ambassador for the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
As a Chevening Scholar, Cody will pursue an MPhil in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. He aims to strengthen his advocacy work to better connect underrepresented communities to key decision makers in Canada.
Brendan Callan
A designer and bio-researcher from Toronto, Brendan is passionate about developing new architectural methods that use innovative natural materials to bring nature and buildings closer together. He graduated from OCAD University with a degree in Environmental Design, where his work received the Ontario Association of Architects Award for innovative approaches to sustainability, and his research has appeared in a peer-reviewed journal. He has participated in international workshops and advised on projects using innovative natural materials.
Brendan is currently pursuing a Master of Architecture in Architectural Design at University College London. Brendan continues to build on his experience by exploring new ways of designing architecture that foster a closer relationship between the built and natural environments. His long-term goals include contributing to environmental progress in Canada through public-sector research, design leadership, and shaping the future of design education.
Zeus Eden
Zeus Eden is a public policy, communications and sustainability strategist who has advised senior leaders across the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
Zeus has held roles in the private sector leading sustainability policy for energy, mining and economic reconciliation at the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, as a Consultant at Navigator Ltd., and in corporate affairs and ESG reporting at Kinross Gold and CPP Investments. He has also advised government leaders serving as Press Secretary to both the Mayor of Toronto and Canada’s Minister of Indigenous Services. He graduated from Trinity College at the University of Toronto with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Political Science and International Relations.
As a Chevening Scholar, Zeus will study toward a MSc in Climate Change, Management and Finance at Imperial College London. He looks forward to returning to Canada with additional skills in financial, data, and quantitative analysis to continue tackling complex challenges related to climate change, Indigenous relations, critical minerals, and inclusive economic growth.
