Greek Street Live – one of Soho’s newest live music bars – is the place to be for anyone who hogs the speaker at parties or barbecues, has hundreds of Spotify playlists to suit every mood, or just loves a good dance.
Since I am guilty of all three, I was enthralled by the independent bar’s fresh and interactive take on live music.
The venue is split across the ground floor and basement of a newly-refurbished townhouse, with laid-back jazz vibes and mood lighting throughout.

But it is the little slips of paper on each table that give away the bar’s main USP: the musicians and bands that take to the stage each night only play requests.
I took great delight in writing down my favourite chart toppers and throwback anthems – with the request slips then collected from our table and delivered to the musicians by the waiting staff – and seeing them transformed into the singers’ own style.
While we waited to hear our requests, my friend and I sampled the “mixologist mainstay” cocktails – all with names as creative as their ingredients.
I tried Filthy Rich, which combined Chivas Regal 12, Disaronno, lemon juice, vanilla syrup and pinot noir (tasty but an instant headache), and the vodka-based Sip Happens.
To line our stomach, and prepare for dancing, we also tucked into dishes from the set menu.

These options – I opted for salt and pepper squid for starter and miso-glazed salmon for main – added an extra touch of luxury to what was already an effortlessly chic night.
Food devoured, bar drunk dry (not quite but the cocktails were strong enough that it felt like it), it was onto the dancing.
Following on from a piano vocalist earlier in the night, a full band continued to play as many requests as possible – interspersed with DJ Ben who kept the tunes coming.
The only bad thing about my night at Greek Street Live was the fact that it had to end.
