Looks like everyone’s favourite award-winning series, Ted Lasso, could be back before we know it. It’s true that the latest season appeared to offer some closure, leading people to believe it was a last hurrah for the show. However, there’s been speculation about a fourth season for some months now, with whisperings of contract renewals for key cast members. And now new reports are suggesting that things are indeed well underway, with filming set to start in London in just a few months.
A tweet shared by Sigmund Judge, host of Apple TV podcast Magic Rays of Light, states: “London filming for Ted Lasso S4 is now set to begin in May/June with focus shifting at AFC Richmond to the formation of its women’s team.”
He went on to say in the replies: “Pre-production is in full swing. The original agreement was a three season order, which I believe has been repeated. I’d think it’s safe to assume that the writing rooms have been secretly busy for some time.”
Despite the chatter from various publications and even the cast, Warner Bros. or Apple TV+ are yet to officially confirm if Ted Lasso Season 4 is happening. That said, Warner Bros. TV boss Channing Dungey did let slip that he was “in conversations about season four, and they are very exciting conversations” in an interview with Variety in October. So it’s looking promising, folks. Believe in belief.
Let’s presume everything Judge says is true for a moment (and it wouldn’t be the first time): this means that not only could there be another three seasons on the cards (huge!), but also that the show is about to shift our attention to a brand new AFC Richmond women’s team. We don’t know much more about the Season 4 plot for now, but it would be a great direction for the show to take.
Which Ted Lasso cast members will be returning for Season 4?
Again, I must stress, nothing has been confirmed. But what we do know is that reports last year seemed to suggest that Warner Bros. TV had picked up the options for at least three original cast members, namely Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins).
More recently, Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley) quite blatantly teased fans of the show in an announcement explaining that he’s had to reschedule a few dates of his upcoming comedy tour “for some filming I have not been able to shift for love nor money.”
He went on to say: “I would really appreciate if people just didn’t speculate as to what they think it might be,” while not-so-subtly flashing a “BELIEVE” sign from the show to the camera. If that doesn’t confirm it, I don’t know what does. And he did promise that all would be revealed soon, so that’s something.
Reports about the return of other key cast members like Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) and, importantly, Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso himself) are harder to interpret, but reading between the lines, I’m hopeful that we’ll also see them back on our screens soon.
