Set the scene
Neither solely hotel nor serviced apartments, The July London Victoria’s unique concept fuses the two. It’s set slap bang in the centre of the city – just a 5-minute walk from Victoria station – and celebrates its surroundings, spotlighting the bustling theatre scene through Art Deco interiors.
The backstory
The July’s original outpost in Amsterdam opened in 2012, and this is its first foray into the UK. The two properties share common themes: both aim to create a space where guests feel at home enough to work, play, or both. The message, it seems, is to live your normal life… in a way that feels just a little bit better.
The apartments
The 114 apartments all reflect the brand’s maxim of flexibility and comfort without compromising on style. Ranging from studio, executive and family apartments, to larger residential serviced apartments for long-staying guests, all feel like an open invite to stay longer than a night. They come with fully-equipped kitchens, rainforest showers and king-size beds that will have you hitting snooze, but it’s the finishing touches, designed by the in-house design team and Fettle, that had me booking my return visit. Nothing has been overlooked, from the books on your bedside table – The Great Gatsby being on mine, which felt aligned with the Art-Deco styling – to the Marie-Stella-Maris bath products from their Objets d’Amsterdam range. You’ll find soft green shades on the walls, pastel corals and pops of red and yellow – another reminder that a calm life can still benefit from an injection of fun.
Food and drink
Make a point of visiting on-site restaurant The Idler. Headed by Chef Jay Campbell, this all-day dining spot offers modern British cuisine with a Mediterranean twist. Roll out of bed for the continental breakfast buffet or a plethora of eggs your way. In the evening, the menu is best complemented with a cocktail from the resident mixologist or a choice from the selection of British wines at the bar.
Don’t fancy leaving the apartment? Pre-book items to be stocked in the fridge of your apartment’s own kitchen or head to the deli for fresh ingredients.
Wellness
There’s a fully equipped gym with a sauna and cold shower on site.

For families
The Family Apartment is the place to book if you’re travelling with a clan. It comfortably hosts four in one king and a set of twin beds across interconnecting rooms. It’s spacious, has a fully-equipped kitchen and living room, as well as its own private hallway. Downstairs, The Idler serves a children’s menu throughout the day.
Accessibility
There’s a specific apartment on site that has been configured for wheelchair users. Behind it’s doors find twin beds, a lowered, fit-for-purpose kitchen and an accessible en-suite bathroom.
Eco effort
In the not too distant future, the property will hold BREEAM excellent certification, and it has plans initiatives to limit operational emissions.
