I had never been to LA before, and my boyfriend and I spent seven nights in the hotel while exploring the city.

If you’re looking for a hotel that combines modern luxury with playful British touches, impeccable service, and a rooftop pool that deserves its own postcard, The London should be at the top of your list.

    First Impressions

Pulling into the porte cochere felt like arriving at a secret garden in the middle of West Hollywood.

The drive is discreet, with ivy climbing over trellises, brick paving underfoot, and white roses lining the entryway.

Original cast-bronze gates by LA artist Charles Fine mark the entrance and the gate design is inspired by the lead tracery found in stained glass within Gothic churches throughout England.

Inside, the lobby was warm and welcoming, with gold accents, marble details, and a Cartier-inspired clock that gave a nod to old Hollywood glamour.

One of the first things I noticed (and couldn’t help smiling at) were the little touches of British whimsy scattered throughout.

The marble bulldog head over the fountain near the entry, the statues of English bulldogs up by the rooftop pool, even the Paddington Bear-inspired “Do Not Disturb” signs in the rooms – all gave the hotel a sense of charm and character.

It’s called The London for a reason, and these subtle ties to its namesake city made it feel both sophisticated and fun.

    The Suite Life

All of the rooms at The London are suites, and ours felt enormous compared to most city hotels I’ve stayed in. It was spacious enough that we never felt cramped during our weeklong stay.

The colour palette of soft sage and tan created a calm, relaxing vibe that felt like an extension of the Hollywood Hills just outside our window.

Our suite came with a large seating area, a plush bed, and a sleek bathroom that honestly felt like a mini spa with a huge bath.

I appreciated the thoughtful design – functional yet stylish.

Priced at $15,000 per night, the 10th floor Penthouse Inspired by Vivienne Westwood can be accessed through a private, contemporary-styled corridor that leads to 6,000 square feet of spacious and striking design, specially created to form an intimate ambiance.

The experience is then taken to new heights on the suite’s 5,000 square foot private outdoor rooftop terrace, ideal for entertaining and featuring breathtaking panoramic city views.

    Rooftop Pool

Without question, the rooftop pool was the highlight of our stay. It’s not just a pool – it’s a full-on experience.

Perched high above the Sunset Strip, it offers panoramic views of LA that stretch from the Hollywood Hills all the way to Downtown and beyond.

The pool area has private cabanas, comfortable loungers, and of course, the bulldog statues keeping watch, which became one of my favourite quirky photo ops.

We spent entire afternoons here, sipping cocktails and grazing on light bites from the poolside menu.

The staff was attentive without being overbearing, and the vibe was exactly what I hoped for: relaxed but stylish, with just enough buzz to make it feel lively.

Watching the sunset from the rooftop while the city lights started to twinkle below us was pure magic.

    Dining and Drinks

Food was another area where The London impressed us.

Mornings started with the complimentary European-style breakfast, which made for the perfect way to start a day before heading out to explore LA.

We had dinner once at the hotel’s rooftop restaurant too, where you can watch the sunset as you eat with the pool right beside you.

There is also an offering of Afternoon Tea at The London, which is offered on weekends. It was another nod to the hotel’s London roots, complete with tiered trays of finger sandwiches, scones, and delicate pastries.

Paired with champagne, it felt like a little escape to Mayfair, right in the middle of West Hollywood.

    Location, Location, Location

The London couldn’t be better situated. Tucked at the base of the Hollywood Hills, it’s right on the edge of Beverly Hills and in the heart of West Hollywood.

We walked to restaurants on Sunset Boulevard, browsed boutiques in the Design District, and even hopped over to Santa Monica Boulevard for a night out.

Having everything so close by meant we spent less time in LA traffic and more time actually enjoying the city.

The hotel also offers a house car service, which we used to get to dinners in Beverly Hills. It was a small but luxurious perk that saved us the hassle of rideshares.

    Service and Extras

What really made our stay stand out was the service. Every staff member we encountered – from the valet team to the pool attendants – was friendly, professional, and genuinely seemed to enjoy their work.

That kind of energy makes a huge difference in the overall vibe of a hotel.

We also took advantage of the gym, which had floor-to-ceiling windows.

It’s open 24 hours, and even though I only managed two workouts during our stay (holidays are holidays, after all), it was one of the nicest hotel gyms I’ve used.

The hotel is also dog-friendly, and while we didn’t bring a pet, we loved seeing a few happy pups trotting through the lobby – it added to the relaxed, at-home feel.

    Final Thoughts

After seven nights at The London West Hollywood, I can honestly say it’s one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had.

It manages to strike that perfect balance between laid-back California cool and refined British elegance.

The suites are spacious and stylish, the food and drinks are top-notch, and the rooftop pool alone is worth booking a stay for.

Add in the unbeatable location and impeccable service, and you’ve got a hotel that doesn’t just meet expectations – it surpasses them.

By the end of our stay, my boyfriend and I were already talking about when we could come back.

If you’re planning a trip to Los Angeles and want a hotel that feels like an oasis while still being in the middle of everything, The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills is a dream choice.

I loved every minute of my stay, and I’d recommend it without hesitation.
