With Pride in Place, residents, businesses, and community groups will deliver real improvements that matter to local people. This is led by local people and backed by the UK government.

Communities will be able to spend the funding on what matters most to them – from improvements to pavements and high streets to investing in culture and green spaces.

Pride in Place: Who decides where the funding goes?

The Pride in Place Programme gives power to local people and partnerships, bringing together residents, the local MP, the council, businesses and community organisations to decide how they would like to shape their area.

Learn more about how the Pride in Place programme works

Each of the nearly 250 areas receiving this money will form a ‘Neighbourhood Board’. These boards will put local people at the centre of defining their area’s future, bringing together residents, local businesses, grassroots campaigners, workplace representatives, faith leaders, and community organisations.

Involving their community, the board should generate a vision for the future of their area and set out a pathway to deliver that over the course of the 10-year programme (and beyond).

Hear about some of the areas which will benefit from this programme

    Bentilee and Ubberley

Bentilee sits on the edge of Stoke-on-Trent and is home to around 13,000 people. The area hasn’t always received the funding it needs, but the community has many ideas for how to change things for the better.

We heard from local minister Malcolm Mycock, about what their priorities are for funding in their neighbourhood.

“Bentilee has got lovely green areas. I’d like to see some of these developed for young families, and kids. They need areas which are clean and tidy, places they want to go and be and spend time.

“I’m hoping with this money, there is going to be a real impact on the people who live here.”

    Bootle South

Bootle South, located in Sefton within the Liverpool City Region, is a neighbourhood of around 7,700 residents. Bootle Strand and South Park have received significant investment from UK Government and the Combined Authority.

We heard from Deb Blakemore, Living Well Sefton Manager, and visited The Strand, to understand how this funding will make a difference.

“The people know their community incredibly well, and they have a lot of knowledge and a lot of skills that could really be utilised to improve the area.

“There’s a lot of organisations in the community that do really good work helping people with social determinants of health, things like finance, benefits and debt.

“There are organisations that support people with employment and training, with neurodiversity that I think would be really beneficial to the community.

“I think they are the people that I would like to see, really being able to have a say in where that funding is spent and how it’s spent.”

    Penhill

Penhill is an estate in Northeast Swindon, home to around 6,800 people. The many active local community groups include People of Penhill, who put on free local events, supervise a community cafe and organise regular litter picks.

We heard from Mark Rycroft, former RAF Engineer, and visited Talent Parkside Hub to understand how this funding will make a difference.

“The pride in place funding would be great for Penhill because the people need it here.

“It’s going to be community led, where we can actually lead the projects and build on the community vibe.

“If we can get the older generation and the younger generation talking and interacting with each other and sharing knowledge and stories, it just brings the community together.”

Neighbourhood Boards for Bentilee and Ubberley, Penhill, and Bootle, will be set up  over the coming months, lead by the local community, with the programme lasting until 2037.

More information about how you can get involved in your local community, including joining or supporting new Neighbourhood Boards, will be released in the coming months by local authorities.
