Ellis Anim-Annor, 28, will appear in Bromley Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday, February 19)
Police have named the man accused of stabbing a “smart and caring” victim to death in a Croydon retail park. Ellis Anim-Annor, 28, of Belgravia Gardens, Bromley, will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday, February 19) charged with murdering 22-year-old Lorik Abazi in the early hours of Sunday morning (February 15).
Officers were called to Valley Retail Park at 1.15am where Lorik and two other men were found with stab injuries. They were rushed to hospital by paramedics, where Lorik died shortly afterwards.
Two women, both aged 25, were also arrested on suspicion of murder but have not been charged. Scotland Yard has confirmed they were bailed since, although one was arrested again on Wednesday, February 18, accused of perverting the course of justice.
Officers have also arrested the two other men found with stab injuries at the scene on suspicion of affray, along with two women aged 21 and 22. One of the men suffered life-threatening injuries in the incident, but after being discharged from hospital he was taken into police custody.
All four have since been bailed. This morning, two more women, both aged 22, were arrested on suspicion of affray and remain in police custody.
Anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam footage that could be relevant to the investigation is asked to submit it online via the Major Incident Public Portal or call police on 101, quoting CAD 511/15FEB. Information can also be reported anonymously, via Crimestoppers, by calling 0800 555 111.
‘A light has gone from our lives’
In a tribute, Lorik’s family said: “Lorik was a caring, smart young man with a good sense of humour and his whole future ahead of him. We, his parents, brother, girlfriend, grandparents and extended family and friends loved him very much.
“A light has gone out in our lives, and we are devastated beyond words by his loss. We kindly ask for privacy at this time.”
Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn said: “My thoughts are with Lorik’s family and loved ones, who have suffered an unimaginable loss. Detectives are working around-the-clock to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
“I want to appeal to anyone with knowledge of what happened or who has footage that could help our detectives to share it with the police.
“I know a tragic incident like this will concern people locally. We believe this to have been an isolated incident and I hope the fact we have a number of suspects in custody provides some reassurance to people in Croydon. We have increased patrols in the local area and I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to my officers.”
